Behind the Scenes of Cirque du Soleil’s ECHO
A Look at the Magic Beyond the Spotlight

ECHO Tickets – Cirque du Soleil

Cirque du Soleil’s ECHO isn’t just a performance—it’s an intricate blend of acrobatics, storytelling, and technology that pushes the boundaries of live entertainment. But what audiences see under the big top is only the tip of the iceberg. Behind the scenes, ECHO is a marvel of coordination, innovation, and artistry.

A Living, Breathing Production
At its heart, ECHO explores the relationship between humans, animals, and the environment. This theme is reflected in everything from costume design to set mechanics. Backstage, a large team of technicians, riggers, and stage managers work seamlessly to ensure every cue lands perfectly. Rehearsals are ongoing, even during show runs, with acrobats continuously training to keep their routines sharp and safe. Cirque du Soleil is like a traveling village. For ECHO, this includes hundreds of people from around the world—artists, crew, and support staff. including its own kitchen, medical center, and workout facilities. 72 trailers to be exact.

Although this performance may last only a few hours on stage, the energy behind it is relentless, fueled by innovation, teamwork, and passion. From the high-flying performers to the quiet technicians backstage, it’s a masterpiece built by hands you’ll never see—but whose work you’ll never forget

Technical Wizardry
The show features a massive cube-shaped structure at the center of the set, made up of 4,300 LED panels. This cube transforms the environment—becoming a city, a forest, or a surreal digital landscape with real-time animation synced to the performers’ movements. Managing this tech requires a dedicated team of visual technicians and programmers who monitor everything from color balance to projection timing.

Costumes and Makeup
Each performer’s costume is custom-designed, made with materials that balance flexibility, durability, and style. The show’s eco-conscious message also influences the materials used, with some outfits made from recycled fabrics. Performers spend up to two hours applying makeup themselves before every show—each design tailored to reflect their character’s role in the story.

Acrobatic Precision
Safety is paramount. Every apparatus—whether a trapeze, aerial strap, or teeter board—is inspected before each performance. Trainers, physiotherapists, and coaches are always nearby to help the artists warm up, recover, and perform at their peak. Aerialists rehearse using harnesses and crash mats, often with spotters guiding each twist and flips.
