DENVER FILM SOCIETY ANNOUNCES FULL LINEUP FOR 20th FILM ON THE ROCKS SUMMER SERIES

Annual summer film series sets sail Friday, May 10 with Titanic

The Denver Film Society (DFS) announced today the complete lineup for its 20th annual Film on the Rocks movie and entertainment series at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The seven-event season kicks-off Friday, May 10 with a screening of Titanic and continues through Monday, August 19 with a presentation of the documentary Free Solo and climber Alex Honnold’s quest to free solo California’s legendary El Capitan.

Film on the Rocks events include the screening of a hit film at the historic venue preceded by musical guests and a comedian to present a full evening of entertainment. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. with musical guests taking the stage at 7 p.m. followed by the film beginning at dusk. “For two decades, Denver audiences have been entertained by a combination of the most iconic and entertaining films in history coupled with notable local bands and comedians in one of the world’s most beautiful outdoor settings,” said Festival Director, Britta Erickson. “This year’s lineup is packed full of some of the most popular films of all time, perennial favorites and a few new film and documentary additions that are going to create a very memorable summer under the stars.”

Friday, May 10: TITANIC

My heart will go on! Instead of icebergs, Titanic will crash into the Rocks this May. One of the most popular films of all time, Titanic solidified a generational crush on Leo DiCaprio and made Kate Winslet an American darling. You’ll truly feel like “The King of the World!” taking in this classic under the stars of Red Rocks.

Tuesday, May 28: BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY

We Will Rock You! The surprise break-out hit from last year returns. But you haven’t seen the Live Aid reenactment until you’ve seen it at Red Rocks. Rami Malek won the Oscar for his turn as Freddie Mercury in this kinetic rock-n-roll biopic. You might not ever see Queen at Red Rocks, but this is the next best thing.

Monday, June 3: GHOSTBUSTERS

Thirty-five years ago a ragtag team of scientists (Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson) promised to save New York City – and the world – from supernatural destruction in the form of a possessed Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis. All these years later GHOSTBUSTERS remains one of Hollywood’s greatest comedy-action hits. Who YOU gonna call?

Monday, June 17: MEAN GIRLS

Fifteenth Anniversary screening! Time to go back to North Shore High and break into your favorite clique, The Plastics. Written by Tina Fey and featuring breakout roles from Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, and Amanda Seyfried, Mean Girls is an all-time comedic classic.

Monday, July 1: TOP GUN

A perennial Film on the Rocks favorite, nothing celebrates the birth of America like the need for speed. Come fly around with Maverick, Goose, and Iceman before next year’s sequel Top Gun: Maverick. Who knows? An impromptu shirtless volleyball game might just happen.

Monday, August 5: THE MIGHTY DUCKS

Everyone’s favorite rag-tag hockey team comes skating back this summer. Emilio Estevez guides these classic underdogs to greatness in this early 90s nostalgic comedy.

Monday, August 19: Free Solo

Winner of Best Documentary Feature at the Academy Awards, Free Solo follows climber Alex Honnold as he attempts to be the first person to ever free solo El Capitan. A literal, edge-of-your-seat thriller, the film expertly documents the grandiose beauty of nature with the vertigo-inducing danger at the same time. Coupled with Honnold’s quirky personality and world-view, this fascinating film is tailor-made for screening among the Rocks.
